Homemade Almond Milk Recipe

Almond milk is a great alternative to cows milk if you are looking for plant-based milk or have lactose intolerance or again any gastrointestinal discomfort.

Almond milk is also rich in nutrients, e.g. calcium and iron, and it is a fantastic source of protein.

An interesting fact is that the body can use the nutrients from plant-based milk much better than regular cows milk.

Making your own milk also comes with benefits, like knowing exactly what is in your milk. It can also be cost-effective too, especially if you buy your almonds in bulks. Last but not least is that it is not hard to make your own milk and time-consuming.

After straining you will be left with some pulp which you can reuse to prepare fresh cookies, brownies or homemade bread.

You can use this milk for your cereal, porridge, smoothies, hot drinks, baking and cooking.

Generally, I would say it takes about 10-15 minutes to make your own almond milk.

Tools you need:

Ingredients:

Step 1: Add all ingredients to your blender and blend them for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2: Strain the mixture using a big bowl using a cloth (using a special nut milk net or just a thin cloth) or a strainer.

You can also add some more water if you find the taste too strong or planning to pasteurise your milk.

Step 3: Pasteurising is done by slowly heating the milk on low heat at 65°C for 30 minutes. I personally don't do this as my milk will be consumed quickly anyway, and I prefer the fresh taste - but it is up to you this step is optional!

Step 4: Fill the milk in an airtight jar/ bottle and keep it in the fridge.

You can keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days, but my personal experience is that it goes faster. :)

Enjoy, and I hope you like this milk as much as we do. If you have any questions or are suffering from any gastrointestinal discomfort, please do not hesitate to contact us here, and we can organise a consultation.
