Oat milk has become more popular over the last few months, it's amazing for smoothies and all sorts of foods and drinks! It is a fantastic addition to a healthy diet as it is rich in nutrients and high in fibre. Oat milk is also a great alternative for dairy and therefore great for those with lactose intolerance. It is also known to be free of cholesterol and it replaces saturated fats with unsaturated fats! Oat milk is also a fantastic source of calcium as it has more calcium than the regular whole-fat cow's milk and therefore it is amazing to strengthen the bones. In fact, the human body does absorb milk from plant sources much better than from animal sources. This milk is not only healthy but also very easy inexpensive to make. Let me share the recipe: Ingredients: 100 g oats 1 litre of cold water a pinch of salt Sweetener - I like to use agave syrup(1tsb), honey(1 tsp) or (3)dates, but you also can use (1tsb)brown sugar. Tools: Blender Nut milk net, thin cloth or a pitcher A big bowl or a jug Bottles (I use about 1-2 depending on their size) A pot in case you like to pasteurised your milk Steps: Add all ingredients to your blender and blend them for about 20-30 seconds. Strain the mixture using a big bowl and a cloth. You can use a special nut milk net or just a thin cloth or a pitcher. When straining the mixture in the net/ cloth make sure to not overstrain as it can cause the milk to become slimy. You can also add some more water if you find the taste too strong or if you are planning to pasteurise your milk. Pasteurising is done by slowly heating the milk on low heat 65°C for 30 minutes, I personally don't do this as the milk will be consumed quickly anyway and I prefer the fresh taste - but it is up to you! After straining and pasteurising (not needed but your choice) simple bottle the milk in an airtight jar/ bottle and keep it in the fridge. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 1 week but my personal experience is that it goes faster. :) Enjoy and I hope you like this milk as much as we do, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here.
