Here are some perks which you will discover are actually true:

Salad will help you to balance your weight, strengthen your bones, protect your heart, improve your muscle performance and much more!

It is also great as a starter for lunch or if you like some light dinner. It's easily digested and won't keep you up at night unlike a heavy dinner.

I am sure we all have been taught to eat our salad and greens when we were kids.

But why is it so important for us to eat salad on a regular basis?

1. Salad is full of vitamins and nutrients the sustain our body

From the beginning of time leaves, vegetables, seeds and fruits have been created for human food consumption.

Leafy greens are full of fiber, folate, carotenoids, vitamins such as vitamin C and K and also minerals such as iron and calcium.

Good leafy green choices for salad are leave letters, kale, watercress, spinach, arugula and cabbage.

There are many healthy benefits that come with leafy greens as well, such as a stronger immune system, a stronger and healthier brain, less belly bloat, stronger bones, improved inflammatory response, optimal gut health and boothed digestive system. Furthermore, eating leafy greens manages the toxins, relieves stress, supports healthy ageing and makes the skin glow.

Plus there are many vegetables that are amazing in a salad, such as carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, olives and many more.

As you can imagine - all of these vegetables are filled with such powerful vitamins and nutritions that your body needs and I am sure you can already see the benefits of eating a salad a day after a short time!

2. It helps with weight balance

Eating more salad can help if you intend to lose weight and in fact it is actually quite healthy to have salad focused days.

Salad is full of all that your body needs and it can be a wonderful way to get rid of these extra few pounds as you're sparing your body heavy and overly processed food.

And if you like to do fasting, it is easier to step into the fast if you start with a salad diet.

3. Strengthen your bones, heart and muscles

To have strong and healthy bones, it is important to have a well balanced combination of calcium, magnesium and vitamin K. Vitamin K is especially important as it cuts down calcium loss in the urine.

Salad also helps the heart to be stronger and can reduce the risk of having a stroke.

When digesting salad the body converts nitrates into nitric oxide which relaxes and widens the blood vessels - which then again helps to lower blood pressure and improves the overall health of the heart.

Healthy muscles need plenty of protein, vitamin A and vitamin K - which are all included in leafy green salad, and therefore it is important when bodybuilding to include a well balanced diet to not only grow your muscles but also insure that your muscles are healthy and strong!

4. Skin and Salad

Salad is rich in water and nutrients which helps to have a clear and youthful skin. It also helps to improve acne as it is high in vitamin E, beta-carotene, fiber and a range of phytonutrients.

5. Healthy Digestion

As salad is rich in fiber it helps to break down digested foods and improve your overall digestion.

It is recommended to eat salad before the main meal as a starter or as a light dinner. Also, for the best digestion it is important to season the salad with the right sauces.

Yes, there are great sauces available to buy, but we recommend to always make a quick and easy sauce yourself in order to avoid overly processed ingredients.

You can just add some olive oil (which is a healthy fat when not cooked and in small amounts), salt and pepper. Also, lemon juice, garlic, yeast flakes and fresh yogurt can be great ingredients for a tasty salad sauce.

We here, at Wholistic Health invite to join our challenge in eating a salad a day for 21 days. During this challenge we will guide, motivate and support you.

One important note we wanted to add at this point, is that fruits and vegetables should be kept separate to avoid constipation or feeling bloated.

Also, if possible try to avoid ready made sauces and quicky whisk your own together - your own sauce is not only tasty but you also know exactly what is in your sauce.
